FRENCH TOAST😍
Congrats! You’ve probably already made it through 3 white elephants, 4 secret Santa’s, and 5 work holiday parties you were promised you wouldn’t have to go to this year. So you’ve earned this, and given you’ve had 16 cookies in the last 3 days you won’t be deviating THAT much from your diet plan😉 The French toast of your dreams is below. GO!😋
I should tell you the ideal way to make this would be buying the challah bread in advance so it can dry out a little before soaking. But if you’re like me and just woke up craving French toast, day of bread will work too, just soak it in the custard a little less time before adding to the pan.
Ingredients:
For the French Toast:
-
1 loaf Challah bread
-
6 eggs
-
1 1/2 cups half & half
-
1 tsp cinnamon
-
2 tbsps packed brown sugar
-
1 tbsp vanilla
-
1 tbsp maple syrup
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/2 stick salted butter, divided
-
Maple syrup and strawberries for serving
Directions:
For the French Toast:
-
Slice challah loaf in 1” slices
-
Whisk all ingredients except for the butter in a large baking dish.
-
If using day old bread, soak each slice in the custard for 2 minutes per side. If using fresh bread, soak for 30 seconds to a minute per side.
-
In a large skillet on medium heat, melt 2 tbsps butter.
-
Once foamy, add French toast in batches and cook 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from pan and set aside.
-
Add in 2 more tbsps of butter and more slices of french toast to cook. Repeat until all butter and toast has been served.
-
To keep the slices warm while you finish the rest, keep in a 275 degree oven for 5-10 minutes.
