PERSIMMON SOUR😍
I’d say we could all use a cocktail right about now, and this *might* be my new favorite – the spiced persimmon syrup adds the perfect amount of sweetness for a fun twist on a classic. Add some dried persimmon slices if you’re extra like me and pinkies up 😉
Ingredients:
For the Persimmon Simple Syrup:
-
2 cups chopped persimmons (about 3 persimmons)
-
1 cup sugar
-
¾ cup water
-
3 whole cloves
-
1 star anise
For the Persimmon Sour (for 1 cocktail):
-
2 oz fresh orange juice
-
0.5 oz lemon juice
-
2 oz persimmon syrup
-
2-3 oz bourbon
-
1 egg white
-
Ice
-
Nutmeg or cinnamon to top
Directions:
For the Persimmon Sour:
-
Start off by making your persimmon simple syrup. Add all ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring often to dissolve the sugar.
-
Reduce to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, then shut off heat and let cool for 5. Strain into a glass container and reserve. The simple syrup will last about 1-2 weeks in the fridge and makes enough for about 4-6 cocktails.
-
Add orange juice, lemon juice, persimmon syrup, bourbon, and egg white to a cocktail shaker or lidded jar. Shake vigorously until frothy.
-
Add ice and shake until cold.
-
Strain into a cocktail or coupe glass and top with nutmeg or cinnamon. Enjoy!
Tried this tonight. Knew your measurements would be too sweet for me, so I went with .5 of lemon, .5 of syrup, 1 oz OJ, 2 oz bourbon, 1 egg. Worth a try if you want to lean into the sour in whiskey sour. Thanks for the idea and for the syrup recipe. this was a great sipper. 🙂
Love the adjustments, will have to try!
